Discover Villefranche-du-Périgord
Founded in 1261 by Guillaume de Bagneux, Villefranche-du-Perigord is one of the oldest bastides – or fortified towns – in the Perigord area.
Stroll through the picturesque streets and discover the market hall of the bastide, visit the 19th-century church or the Maison de la Châtaine, the local museum.
Villefranche
While walking along the streets of Villefranche, you will notice that this town has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. In the morning, you can easily walk to one of the bakeries for fresh croissants and baguettes. Then get some delicious pate de campagne from the butcher or visit the supermarket for delicious French cheese.
Have lunch at Le Goûter de Charlotte, where, in addition to delicious quiches, you will also find artisanal ice cream and all kinds of regional products. Then, in the evening, settle down on the terrace of restaurant Au Multiple Saveurs or Ô Faim Goût’R Mets. During the summer, you can take your picnic stuff to the Marché des Producteurs on Tuesday evening.


Activities

Swimming
Take a peek from the French balcony, and you can see it right in front of you: the municipal swimming pool of Villefranche-du-Perigord. Grab your towel, cross the street and within 5 minutes, you’re splashing in the cooling water.
The swimming pool is only open in July and August from 2 pm to 7 pm.
Explore
Don’t want to just hang around? Then explore the area! Visit the Office de Tourisme or check their site for what to do in the area. The municipality of Villefranche also has its own website, which you can find here.
The surroundings of Villefranche du Perigord are beautiful. Explore the surrounding towns, such as the bastide of Monpazier or visit the Chateau de Biron or Chateau de Bonaguille. But you can also enjoy walking or cycling in the hills around Villefranche. There are two bicycles waiting for you in the cottage.
Get active
Just in case you want to get truly active, you can visit the nearby Perigord Loisir Natur. It’s a great place for a game of paintball, drive a quad or go treasure hunting.
Speaking of treasure hunting: there are plenty of geocaches in the Périgord for you to find.
